It’s that time of year. You’re ready to wear summer colors, short sleeves and sandals. But, unfortunately, spring weather can pull a fast one on you; one minute it’s warm and sunny, and the next it’s cool and rainy. So how do you successfully break out your summer clothes while still being spring appropriate?
Layer Up
One of the easiest ways to wear summer clothes in the spring is to add layers. For example, wearing a cute summer top with a bright cardigan look springy and can still keep you warm. You can also layer t-shirts by wearing a coordinating tank to under a lower cut shirt. Layers let you play with summer colors and patterns, while still dressing warm for unavoidable spring cold fronts. This style is perfect for a night out on the town because you can add layers as the weather cools down.
Cover Your Toes
It’s so tempting to pull out those sandals. But, there are lots of cute spring options that will keep your toes warm while you wait for summer weather to fully hit. Look for cute ballet flats or pumps in bright colors and floral prints. These shoes scream summer, but will keep your feet warm in case of a spring shower. Also, closed-toe shoes can look more professional than sandals. So this look is perfect for any office job, from administrative assistant to account executive.
Liven Up Your Accessories
It’s surprising how much accessories can change the look of an outfit. Light, simple jewelry can make clothes with warmer colors look less heavy. A bright purse in blue, yellow, pink or green can also add some spring to your outfit.
Scarves are the perfect transition piece. By adding them to your outfit you can make it lean one way or the other. For example, find a bright scarf with a geometric pattern and wear it with a t-shirt. Or, if it’s cool outside, add a spring cardigan to the outfit.
As spring begins to blossom, you can bring out some of your summer clothes a few months early by using these transitional tips. Happy spring!
